The 1D Toon

If you are a Directioner, you will have already seen this.  It has already gotten over a million views in just two days. If you can't tell a Niall from a Zayn, you might be a bit perplexed by some of the references, but it's funny anyway. And the guy who made it, a young animator named Mark Parsons, may have put his career in high gear.

Pups

Too frickin' adorable.

That Face

Is this the best collarbone photo, maybe ever?
Look at that face.  A heart-breaker, this one is.  Dan Rumpf,  for that is his name, is from Deutschland,  specifically Kleinmachnow, birthplace of Kurt Weill and Arnold Schoenberg (just sayin').  Another skinny boy,  he might want to eat a few bratwurst.

More after the break.

Birth Daze

What could be better than Gorgeous Gregg Sulkin posing shirtless with his older brother Grant?

Answer:  Throw some David Henrie into the mix.

Happy 20th birthday Gregg! Thanks for giving us this present.

Louder! Better! Stronger!

Back in February, this handsome young man from Canada, name unknown,  posted this photo of himself and said,
"So today I was really pissed by a lot of homophobic shit I’ve read. So instead of sending them useless messages, I expressed my pride! This is me, I’m gay and I’m proud."

If you think this boy is awesome and deserves your support, visit his Tumblr blog, here,  and send him some love.

It's Not That Hard Is It?

Just find a pretty picture and slap it up on the blog.  That's all that anyone really wants.

Well, how about some pretty pictures of  Filip Timotijevic, who was recruited after he was spotted as a finalist on Serbia's Got Talent?  In case you were wondering, his talent is dancing, although I'm sure he's good at lots of other things.

Mug Shot

Have the fashionistas amongst us noticed that the so-called "Polaroids," the no-frills photos that modeling agencies take of aspiring models for casting reference, resemble nothing so much as mug shots? But, you know, with better skin and hair? Take this youngster,  a Russian fellow named Genia Potapenko.  Apart from the fact that he desperately needs a cheeseburger or two, it seems like he's preparing to enter the world's most fabulous prison.  As you can see from the Polaroids above, and the fancy photos below,  Genia is a very pretty, albeit super-skinny guy, and you can bet that if I were running a modeling agency I'd hire him just for his lips.

This Is Not A Western

My future ex-husband makes like a cowboy in this scene from Magic Mike. It opens in the USA on June 29th.  Lionsgate, the film's UK distributor released the following  trailer last week, and I'm feeling mighty happy.

I Heart Jimmy

After a long absence from YouTube,  one of my favorite vloggers has made a return. It's Jimmy 0010, and even if he hasn't been exactly prolific since his return,  it's nice to have him back.  He's so funny and charming.  You really ought to watch his videos and subscribe to him, because he deserves some virtual love.

Pin-Up Boy

I really thought that I had seen every 1980s era pin-up picture of my future ex-husband emeritus, C.Thomas Howell, that there was to see.  What I forgot about was a far off place called Japan that was/is full of teen-age girls who have the exact same taste as me. So, thank you, Japan, for these pictures.  I'll be sure to gaze longingly at them while I listen to Barbra Streisand's recording of The Way We Were.

R.I.P. Robin Gibb

What is it about nostalgia?  I'm not really a fan of it. I enjoy things from earlier eras, but that isn't really nostalgia.  Real nostalgia involves the idealization of your own past. But the truth is that here is no such thing as the good old days.  Every era has its good bits and its bad bits, but 1970s nostalgia seems particularly funny to me, considering how depressing the 1970s were to so many people at the time.  Still, I'm not completely immune to nostalgia.  Even though I spent large portions of the '70s wanting it all to end,  there are aspects of it which I look back on with real fondness.  I was never a Bee Gees fan at the time, especially the disco-era Bee Gees, which is how most people remember them, I have gained a certain fondness for their music, Saturday Night Fever and its ilk.  If you look at the career of the Bee Gees, you can see that they were musical gadflies, joining in on almost every musical trend of the sixties and seventies, from folk and Mersey beat to psychedelic and glam, until they got stuck into the glue trap of disco, from which there was no escape. They were not in the vanguard of disco, but they became the face of disco,  and that was both their blessing and their curse. Sure, there was a time when Staying Alive was like fingernails on a chalkboard to me, but I don't feel like that any more. Today I find it almost... comforting.  With Robin Gibbs' passing, there is only one Gibb brother left. I wish him, Barry, all the best.  The Bee Gees, in their day,  made a lot of people feel better about their lives, and there are worse things you can do.

Two Of My Favorite Things

Two great tastes that go great together, Broadway musicals and frothy teen pop. Yes, the cast of the Broadway production of Anything Goes does a lip synch to One Direction's What Makes You Beautiful,  and Auntie Vera is grinning like a maniac.

R.I.P. Donna Summer

I'd be nothing but a liar if I said I wasn't a fan of Donna Summer.  Her popularity pretty much coincided exactly with my teen years, and although she was too mainstream to be cool with the sub-suburban hipster crowd I ran with in high school, everybody listened to her music, even if they didn't admit it.  For a while, she was THE pop diva, with movie appearances, TV specials, duets with Streisand, etc., but unfortunately she was too associated with disco to survive its demise, and she seemed to simply disappear in the early 80s.  She famously found Jesus, and urban legend has it that she tried to buy up the rights to her early, sexually suggestive recordings so she could make them disappear forever.  She also courted scorn with her gay fans, which, by then, were her only fans, when it was reported at the dawn of the AIDS crisis that she had publicly declared the disease a "punishment from God." She later vehemently ever saying this, but by then the damage was done. She never made a comeback.

I can't believe how much of her music I have on my iPod.

"Whodat?" Revealed

If you guessed that yesterday's adorable little Whodat? boy was River Viiperi, you guessed correctly. Here is River, all grown up.

Twins!

Jack and Tom Dunbar are twins, just in case it wasn't glaringly obvious. According to the Boys by Girls site, an indispensable source of important information, one of them is a dancer and the other is a footballer, but they don't say which is which.  I'm not much into the incestuous vibe that almost always seems to get exploited when twins model together -remember the Brewer Twins?-  but there is a special thrill to be had from the sight of a beautiful boy times two.

Whodat?

This should be easy. Can you identify this future supermodel?  The boy, on the left, not the girl.  Hint: he's still adorable.

Say No More!

Celebrity Selfie

Now that he is 17 years old, Disney boy Kenton Duty has decided to show us his guns.  We still think that Kenton is wearing too many clothes,  but this is a step in the right direction.

It's Cinco De Mayo!

Cinco De Mayo!  Yes,  like St. Patrick's Day, most people in the United States simply use it as an excuse to get drunk (margaritas instead of green beer). I'm using it as an excuse to show a few pictures Mexican-born 21-year-old singer/actor/all-around hot person, Diego Boneta. Diego who was (is?) on the popular series Pretty Little Liars, will be seen this summer in the film version of the sad excuse for a Broadway musical, Rock of Ages.
