Today In History

Today is the anniversary of the Stonewall riots.  If you don't know what that means,  there is a good piece about it on Slate which can be read here.  The world is a much better place for LBGT people now than it was in 1969 and we have the generation that fought back that night, and for years afterwards, to thank for that.  And remember,  eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.

Now, go out into the world and do good things.

So now I'm more free to ogle hot guys everywhere, and -- believe me -- I am vigilant!

Every time I pass the Stonewall I can't help but become a bit emotional and offer a little salute to those who were finally fed up with being stepped on and strong enough to take a stand.

Having talked with one or two of those who were there, I only wish I had been able to join them back then. We've made quite a bit of progress in this country, but sadly, the gay community is still not considered equal citizens.
